Grand Adventure: Day 3 and 4
Day 3 – Spending the Day in Denver, CO
We had planned on going to Colorado Springs but when we heard of all the fires, we knew to stay away from that area. Denver was a great alternative. We went to the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in the morning. It was packed with kids but other than that the exhibits were fun (still not as awesome as the field museum in Chicago). After a few hours there, we went to the 16th street mall, an outdoor and indoor series of blocks.
We walked around, saw Brave at the theatre then ate some dinner at Katie Mullens, an irish pub on the strip. We headed back to the hotel to sleep for one more night and take a time exposure of downtown Denver.
The next day we left Denver, and drove up through Colorado to Nebraska and had lunch in North Platte. I only took one photo of Nebraska because it literally looked the same throughout the entire god awful state. It was completely flat and full of crops. Nebraska went on forever and the heat and humidity was brutal.
Once we got out of Nebraska, my spirits were a little higher. Iowa was gorgeous compared to Nebraska. Rolling hills of multi colored greens with scattered barns and houses. It was one of those places that I thought would be paradise if all I wanted to do was stay off the grid, live my life out in the middle of no where and live a simpler life. But we all know that isn’t me at all.
We stopped in Des Moines for the night, and were barely able to get a room. Every “good” hotel was booked due to the Good Guy’s Car show in town. In the end we stayed at an Extended Stay America in the town over. I highly suggest Extended Stay. The room was nice sized with a kitchen and nice bathroom and the “room service” was really good.
