Holiday Trend: sparkle
Designing for retail means keeping up with the trends and though it may not be news to you, this years holiday trend is jewel tones and sparkles and it’s coming in all shapes, colors, textures, and sizes. It’s definitely a more glamorous theme than, which is right up my ally.
What you’ll see during the holidays:
Glitter, confetti, bokeh, Farkles (fake sparkles), paillettes, mixed metals, sequins
So lets break down some of these sparkly promos I’ve seen (winter 2012):
Charlotte Russe has always strived to be “on trend” and this holiday season is definitely their style. They already adopt the glam and sexy mantra and infuse “farkles” (fake sparkles), bokeh, and fun eye-catching typography.
Nordstrom always chooses to let their product do all the work. This classic “on white” look really makes the sparkle and shine of the clothes stand out. I don’t even mind that all three models are the same girl. I especially love the second one with the stripes of sparkle mixed in with the bars of color.
Swarovsky is the pinnacle of sparkle; it’s a crystal company! They have really done well by adding in bokeh and motion blur affects to make their images more luxurious and fun. Incase you didn’t know what “bokeh” is, it’s the little circles (or in this case octagon) shapes that look like little lights. It’s a photography effect and a great way to create a glamour effect.
Target has plaid it subtle by going the glitter rout and adding it to their logo. Nice touch.
Kate Spade fully embraced the jewel and the sparkly this holiday season, using a jewel background, and incorporating jewel colors and patterns into a lot of the product. I always look to Kate spade for inspiration and she always delivers!

Outfits for my Alter Ego:
1. Charlotte Russe is known for their VaVa Voom body con dresses and this one is no exception. I love the super elegant silver sequins on white. Pair it with some Charlotte Russe Mixed Metal Heels and a Kate Spade Sequin clutch.
